Ausangate (Ausangate in Quechua), is the origin of the rivers that flow through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and extend into the Amazon with their final destination being the Atlantic Ocean. It is the fifth highest mountain in Peru, standing at an elevation of 6,372 meters above sea level, located 100 kilometers southeast of the city of Cusco.

Located in the Andes Mountains, within an area known as the Vilcanota mountain range, corresponding to the Cusco region in Peru. The highest peak rises to 6,372 meters above sea level and boasts large lagoons with a clear green/blue color.

Legends and traditions in Inca mythology surround this mountain and the nearby lakes, with SIBINACOCHA standing out, representing the male energy that fertilizes the mother, giving birth to PACHAMAMA.

After a long journey, the water vanishes into the Amazon region, filling the lakes and glaciers every night, transforming into the river of stars known as WILLKAMAYU, or in the West as the Milky Way. The CHILLCA community, comprised of llama and alpaca herders, are known as the guardians of these sites. Visitors can embark on mountain treks and stay overnight in comfortable hostels or Tambo's, with MACHURACAY TAMBO being a prominent choice.

APU AUSANGATE is considered the ultimate mountain in the initiation quest of the Andean priests, where they undertake pilgrimages and perform offerings or MISSAYUCKUNA. The sole heirs of the oral Quechua tradition.

He is also regarded as the GUIDE APU OF TAHUANTINSUYO and the guardian of all evolutions, known as APU AUSANGATE CABILDO or APU MAYOR.
